Italy Day 12 – Touring Rome

Our last full day in Italy was spent touring around the sights of Rome. We did breakfast at our hotel (Hotel Villa EUR) and it was fantastic! They even had a pot of coffee (caffe americano) and crispy bacon! We then walked a short distance downhill to the bus stop and hoped for a much smoother day of bussing than on the Amalfi coast. We were in luck and the correct bus come and the process of buying the ticket onboard was super easy – just tap your chip card or phone pay option to the terminal. From there it was about a 35 min ride into the main heart of Rome. We excited and made our way to a couple of sights that Josh had picked out, but pretty much everywhere you look in Rome is a historic site!

Our tour of the Colosseum was scheduled for 2 pm and we had unfortunately lost the option for the underground part due to overbooking. Our tour guide was perfectly nice but seemed a little under enthused. Granted it was incredibly hot and crowded so mustering up a lot of energy would have been a challenge for anyone!

Dice that were found during excavations, so intricate!

We ended the day paying big city prices for dinner, the only time I felt the food and drink was overpriced honestly. The bus back wasn’t as easy but we eventually found the correct stop and make our way home. Back at the hotel is was packing frenzy to prepare for the 4 am wake up to head to the airport!
